FOUNDER & CEO

Dr. Cheyenne E. Batista has been teaching, leading, and driving impact in the education, nonprofit, and corporate sectors for more than 22 years. Before launching Firefly Worldwide Inc., Cheyenne served as a founding principal and school superintendent within a small network of Pre-K to 12th grade community-driven schools in East Harlem, New York.

As a life-long educator, Cheyenne has taught in classrooms at various K-12 and postsecondary settings around the world, from New York City to Washington, D.C. to São Paulo, Brazil. She currently teaches Collaborative Inquiry Through Systems Thinking as an Adjunct Professor in the doctoral program at American University School of Education. Cheyenne brings her love of teaching and learning into every aspect of her work at Firefly Worldwide Inc.

Through various roles, Cheyenne has designed and led schools, overseen strategic planning and growth for a school network, managed school principals and network staff, and coached instructional leaders and teachers. She actively supported a $50M fundraising campaign that resulted in the erection of a new $30M education facility in New York City. As Program Manager at Grow Network/McGraw-Hill, she drove forward complex product deliveries in education assessment data reporting. She has also served as a managing director on the senior leadership team of an education nonprofit. She is a TED-Ed Masterclass keynote speaker and also sits on the board of Our Voice Alliance, a growing nonprofit fellowship program for educators of color.

An alumna of New York City public schools and the first in her family to graduate college, Cheyenne graduated with a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an Ed.M. in Education Policy & Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and an Ed.D. in Education Policy and Leadership from American University. Her multi-award winning dissertation research focused on interpersonal conflict experienced by Black women leaders managing interracial teams. The community Cheyenne cultivated through her research is a reflection of her approach to building trust amongst the leaders she supports.

Cheyenne is a trilingual lover of life, an enthusiastic world traveler, and a die-hard New Yorker with a home base in Philadelphia. She loves chasing sunsets and exploring cuisines worldwide, camping, and motorcycling. She enjoys all the quality time she can get with her family, her loving life partner, her grumpy maltese Dizzy Gillespie, and humorous boxer Lola.
